Some of the most beautiful journeys begin with the smallest spark.

Mine began at a kitchen table with my daughter, my creative Lil SunStar, who had the sweetest idea: "Mommy, let's make something I can share with my friends."

We decided on soap. Simple bars made with our own hands, infused with laughter and the kind of unhurried joy that only comes when you're creating something together. What I didn't know then was that this tender moment would become the foundation of everything SunStar Soapery is today.

When Skin Finds Its Home

The first time I used our homemade soap, something shifted. My sensitive skin, skin that had struggled for years to find products that truly loved it back, felt different. Softer. Calmer. Seen.

That's when I understood: this wasn't just about making soap. This was about creating skincare that begins with one question. "Will this be kind to the skin that needs gentleness most?"

Every formula since has started there. Sensitive skin first. Never as an afterthought.

Discovering Whole-Plant Formulation

As I went deeper into formulation, I kept coming back to the same truth: nature already had the answers.

Most skincare brands isolate a single compound from a plant and call it natural. But when I started infusing whole calendula petals into sunflower oil and letting them steep for weeks, I saw what happened when you honor the complete botanical. The full spectrum of soothing compounds, antioxidants, and skin-loving nutrients working together the way they were designed to.

That approach has a name: whole-plant formulation. And once I understood it, I couldn't go back.

I enrolled in Formula Botanica, the world's leading organic cosmetic science school, to deepen my knowledge of botanical skincare science. I wanted to understand not just what works, but why it works, so that every product I create is built on real expertise, not guesswork.

That training, combined with two competition wins in formulation through Soap and Clay's Project Soapway, gave me the confidence to know that what we make isn't just heartfelt. It's effective.

A Family Woven Into Every Product

This has always been a family story.

Mr. SunStar is my steadfast anchor. He names each product with thoughtful care and labels every bottle with steady hands and a generous heart. Lil SunStar brings her boundless creativity to our studio, helping package orders and adding her own spark of joy to everything we touch. And Brother SunStar is my trusted tester for all our men's products, making sure every beard oil and every bar meets the standard of someone who truly knows what works.

From our studio in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, each product is blessed by more than just my hands. It's blessed by the hearts of the people who believe in this calling alongside me.
